This work includes collaborations with internationally acclaimed composer and musician Peter Jones, vocalist Ana Treviño-Godfrey of Mercury Baroque and Bessie Award-winning lighting designer Roma Flowers. Workshop #1
Dance Fitness Class
Sunday, September 17
11-1 p.m.
Cost $30
This session will be relevant for dancers, teachers, and those interested in pedagogy and applied dance physiology. The purpose of this session is to experience a practical dance-specific fitness class designed to improve dancers’ overall fitness levels. This particular approach to improving dancers’ fitness has been successfully implemented in vocational dance training, and positive effects were reported at IADMS in 2006. By the end of this session participants will understand how to deliver supplemental fitness training sessions that benefit dancers’ technical training. The structure of the class will consist of a warm-up, continuous movement of moderate intensity, and dance-specific exercises for muscular strength, endurance and power. After a sufficient cool-down there will be time for discussion. Participants should be injury free and have a relatively good level of fitness. A high level of skill is not required. All dance styles are welcome. In recent years dancers’ fitness has been a pertinent area of investigation. Previous research has shown a discrepancy between intensity levels required for class and performance. In order to bridge this gap, supplemental fitness training is recommended within dance training. However, there remains a lack of practical demonstration of how to accomplish this. Our session will demonstrate one potential approach to addressing the physiological needs of dancers.

A Special Hope Center Yamuna Spa Day:
SAVE YOUR FACE
_
Sunday
10 a.m.-12 noon
Fee $75 (fee includes class, refreshments and your own face ball)
Fee $45 (if you already have Yamuna Face balls)
Join us August 15th for a relaxing and amazing late summer Yamuna Body Rolling Spa Day. Taught by the wonderful Jo Yost Ulrich who just returned from New York City, where she learned the amazing YBR “face ball” techniques. Yamuna has designed a ball with the same quality and smoothness of the skin, which makes working the face, neck and skull very relaxing and therapeutic and very aesthetically effective.
We are told that the sun and other environmental factors are the primary causes of skin damage. Yamuna believes that just like every other part of our bodies, the face is subject to tremendous repetitive stress from very early on. We begin to frown, squint our eyes, clench our jaws, grind our teeth, tighten our lips and on and on. Each of us has tension patterns that we are no longer aware of that we do constantly, everyday all day. These patterns cause early bone loss, form wrinkles, cause sinus and tension headaches and TMJ.
Learning how to work on your own face with specially designed balls will give you a way to prevent aging and when you feel the difference in your face when it is relaxed versus your normal, you will want to incorporate this work into your self care program. This is YBR’s answer to keeping your skin toned and sinuses clear. Consider it fitness for the face-a natural face lift.
Space is limited so please RSVP!
